The New International Version (NIVUK) is a translation developed by over one hundred scholars utilizing the most reliable Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts available. Initiated in 1965 through collaborative efforts of the Christian Reformed Church and the National Association of Evangelicals, it was conceived as a contemporary English translation responsive to modern language needs. The project received endorsement from prominent church leaders in 1966 and was entrusted to the Committee on Bible Translation, a self-governing body of fifteen biblical scholars. Financial sponsorship was provided by the New York Bible Society (now Biblica) beginning in 1967.
